    North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho has been spotted at Beijing Capital International Airport this morning. Ri is likely on his way to New York for the United Nations General Assembly, where he is scheduled to address a meeting on Saturday local time. His meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, however, has yet to be confirmed. Ri was expected to leave Beijing for New York this afternoon.■[2018.09.24]

  • ≡ Moon, Abe To Hold Summit On Sidelines Of UN General Assembly

    President Moon Jae-in is set to hold a summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe this week on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. A Cheong Wa Dae official said the summit will take place on Tuesday, a day after Moon meets with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday, local time. President Moon is expected to share the outcome of his visit to Pyongyang and discuss ways to accelerate the North's denuclearization process. Moon would be meeting with Abe for the first time since May when he visited Tokyo for a three-way summit that also involved Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.■[2018.09.24]

  • ≡ N. Korea Accuses S. Korea Of Military Build-Up

    North Korea has accused South Korea of trying to build up its military forces. The North's propaganda outlet Uriminzokkiri published a commentary saying the move is unacceptable considering ongoing efforts to ease military tensions between the two Koreas. It lashed out against the South's launching ceremony of a 3,000-ton missile-capable submarine on September 14th where President Moon Jae-in said "peace through strength" is the government's unwavering security strategy. It also called out on Seoul's plan to procure six maritime patrol aircraft and 64 interceptor missiles from Washington. Earlier, the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced the potential deals worth 2.6 billion dollars in total, saying they would not alter the basic military balance in the region.■ [2018.09.24]

  • ≡ Korea Forest Service Cracks Down On Illegal Collection Of Forest Products

    The Korea Forest Service is cracking down on illegal collection of forest products such as acorns, chestnuts, pine nuts and mushrooms. According to the agency, those who get caught collecting such products without permission from forest owners will face a prison term of up to 5 years or a fine of up to 50 million won.     The Korea Meteorological Administration is urging the public to look up towards the sky tonight, in order to catch the full moon on this Chuseok. Most regions will experience relatively clear conditions this evening, allowing people to soak up the moonlight and make a wish for health and happiness. The moon is expected to rise at around 6:19 p.m. and reach its zenith just after midnight. During Chuseok and other harvest celebrations around the world, the bright, full moon is an iconic symbol of the autumnal equinox, marking the change in seasons.■ [2018.09.24]
