  • ≡ Moon Embarks On Diplomatic Mission In New York

    President Moon Jae-in is in New York on a diplomatic mission aimed at breaking the deadlock in denuclearization talks between the U.S. and North Korea. Moon will hold a summit with U.S. President Donald Trump early Tuesday, Korea time, on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly where he will brief on the results of the latest inter-Korean summit held in Pyongyang. The two leaders are also expected to sign a revision to the South Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement. President Moon will also meet Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to share details about his visit to Pyongyang and discuss ways to accelerate the dismantlement of the North's nuclear weapons program. Moon will deliver a keynote speech at a U.N. meeting on Wednesday, focusing on South Korea's vision for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.     Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon says finding a fundamental solution to the issue of war-separated families is the government's top priority in carrying out inter-Korean summit agreements. Speaking at an event with separated families this morning, Cho said both Koreas cannot delay the task any longer. In their latest summit in Pyongyang, leaders of the two Koreas agreed to open a facility for regular inter-Korean family reunions.   • ≡ More Expensive Apartment Means Bigger Price Surge: Real Estate 114

    A new report shows the more expensive an apartment is, the bigger the price surge it will undergo if it's in Seoul. According to data compiled by industry tracker Real Estate 114, the sales price of an apartment in the capital city worth over 900 million won rose an average 32 percent this month compared to January of last year. The figure is comparable to apartments valued below 900 million won which saw their price rise 27 percent during the same period. The spike in price was most significant for mid-sized apartments located in the Gangnam, Mapo, Yongsan and Seongdong districts, shedding light on a shift in public preference for smaller housing units in these areas.■ [2018.09.24]

    The Korea Meteorological Administration is urging the public to look up towards the sky tonight, in order to catch the full moon on this Chuseok. Most regions will experience relatively clear conditions this evening, allowing people to soak up the moonlight and make a wish for health and happiness. The moon is expected to rise at around 6:19 p.m. and reach its zenith just after midnight.   • ≡ Korea Forest Service Cracks Down On Illegal Collection Of Forest Products

    The Korea Forest Service is cracking down on illegal collection of forest products such as acorns, chestnuts, pine nuts and mushrooms. According to the agency, those who get caught collecting such products without permission from forest owners will face a prison term of up to 5 years or a fine of up to 50 million won.
