≡ Moon, Putin Discuss Sanctions On N. Korea On ASEAN Sidelines
President Moon Jae-in and Russian President Vladimir Putin have held talks on easing sanctions on North Korea on the sidelines of a regional summit in Singapore.
Cheong Wa Dae spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said during the leaders' hour-long meeting on Wednesday, Moon requested Moscow's active role in efforts to persuade Pyongyang to take denuclearization steps in a "bolder manner."
Putin was quoted as telling Moon that there should be reciprocal measures if there is progress in denuclearization.
They also agreed to continue cooperation to achieve the goal of increasing their countries' bilateral trade volume to 30 billion dollars.
During the 20th Korea-ASEAN summit, Moon said he will actively consider inviting North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to a special summit South Korea plans to host for Southeast Asian nations next year.
Moon is scheduled to hold talks with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence today and take part in the ASEAN plus three summit, involving China and Japan, and the broader East Asia Summit.■[2018.11.15]
