≡ S. Korea Aims To Boost Hydrogen Car Production
South Korea is seeking to dramatically increase hydrogen car production as part of efforts to sharpen its competitive edge in hydrogen power generation, storage, and usage.
The government unveiled a roadmap today that aims to raise the accumulated number of such vehicles manufactured locally to 6.2 million by 2040, compared to the current production figure which stands at below 2,000.
It also wants to increase the number of hydrogen charging stations in the country from 14 to 1,200 and hydrogen fuel cell production to store 15 gigawatts of power in total.
The government expects if all goes as planned, the next generation industry will create 420,000 new jobs and added value worth some 43 trillion won.■ [2019.01.17]
≡ State Pension Fund Aims To Diversify Investments In 2019
The National Pension Service says it will diversify its investment portfolio this year as part of efforts to boost returns.
The country's state pension fund revealed it will increase its overseas stock and bond investments to 32 percent and alternative investments to nearly 13 percent, while limiting local bond purchases to 45 percent.
The move comes as the NPS posted poor returns last year amid shaky market conditions at home and abroad.
Data show as of the end of October, the fund's return stood at minus 0.57 percent, marking the first negative yield in 10 years.■[2019.01.17]
