U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and
Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi have discussed cooperation on resolving the North Korean nuclear issue.
Following his stop in Seoul, Pompeo flew to Beijing yesterday to update officials, including President Xi Jinping, on the historic Trump-Kim summit.
Xinhua new agency quoted the Chinese leader as telling Pompeo that Beijing was committed to seeing "denuclearization of the peninsula and its peace and stability."
The U.S. envoy also delivered a message from President Trump conveying his appreciation for Xi's "important advice and help over the Korean Peninsula issue."
However, Pompeo and Wang traded barbs over trade issues among others.
Wang urged Washington to meet them half way in regards to the potential tariffs on billions of dollars in Chinese imports, which will be decided by Trump on Friday.■
