Rival political parties have shown mixed reactions on the minimum wage hike for next year.
The ruling Democratic Party in a statement called on rival parties to put their heads together to find protective measures for small business owners, suffering from the wage raise.
The main opposition Liberty Korea Party demanded the scrapping of the President's pledge to gradually increase the minimum wage to 10,000 won by 2020, saying the measure disregards current economic conditions, expressing concerns about price hikes and growing unemployment figures.
The Party for Democracy and Peace noted that while it's urgent to find countermeasures for small and mid-sized companies, it criticized the different voices raised over the issue from parliament, the government, and Cheong Wa Dae.■
