The head of North Korea's delegation to high-level inter-Korean talks today says Seoul and Pyongyang have become very close friends.

Ri Son-gwon, the chairman of the North's Committee for Peaceful Reunification, made the comment during opening remarks this morning.

Seoul's Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon, meanwhile, noted how inter-Korean relations have improved compared to a year ago.

The two sides discussed preparations for a third summit between their leaders during the morning session, which ended around 11:10 a.m.

They were expected to resume talks this afternoon to further discuss the implementation of the Panmunjom Declaration, including economic cooperation issues.■
