The last Mnet Asian Music Awards were held before the spread of the novel coronavirus at the Nagoya Dome in Japan on Dec. 5, 2019.
This year's Mnet Asian Music Awards will be held virtually on December 6 in South Korea amid the ongoing pandemic.
The K-pop industry's largest annual awards show is usually held as a multiday event staged across several venues in Asian countries.
A representative for CJ ENM, which hosts the ceremony, said it believes the contact-less event for 2020 will "provide a new opportunity to transform the show."
Launched in 1999 under the name Mnet Km Music Festival, the event was renamed MAMA in 2009 as it expanded its reach throughout Asia.
