LG Group says its Honorary Chairman Koo Cha-kyung has died at the age of 94.
Born in 1925, Koo led the conglomerate for 25 years from 1970.
He put an emphasis on growing LG into a world-class company through heavy investment in new technologies and research and development.
Koo was also active in expanding LG's overseas footholds in key markets, including China, Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe and North America.
After retirement, he spent much of his time engaging in various educational activities and corporate philanthropy.
He is the father of late Chairman Koo Bon-moo, who died in May, and the grandfather of the current chief, Koo Kwang-mo.■
