Depiction of Hyundai’s hydrogen fuel cell vehicle
Eco-friendly cars will make up at least 90 percent of all vehicles owned by the government by 2030.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said Tuesday the country's new energy initiative aims to break away from traditional sources of fuel.
In 2019, public organizations owned over 118,000 units of automobiles, with electric, hydrogen fuel cell and hybrid models accounting for 12.7 percent.
Starting next year, public organizations will be required to fill at least 80 percent of their new automobile purchases with eco-friendly cars.
Cars that do not have eco-friendly versions available, such as trucks or special-purpose vehicles, will be exempt from the plan.
