Kia Motors has suspended two of its plants in South Korea after confirming cases of COVID-19 among its employees.

The automaker said it halted the operations of two plants in Gwangmyeong, just south of Seoul, from late Wednesday and sent all of its 6,000 workers home.

At least seven assembly line workers and four family members had been diagnosed with the disease as of early Thursday, according to the company.

A spokesperson said they would decide on when to reopen the factories based on guidance from local health authorities.

Kia has eight domestic plants, including three in Hwaseong and three in Gwangju, and seven overseas -- three in China and one each in the United States, Slovakia, Mexico and India.
