Samsung Display has reportedly received approval from the U.S. government to supply certain display products to Huawei Technologies.
Yonhap News on Tuesday cited sources in Seoul as saying the company recently acquired a license from the U.S. Commerce Department to export some of its smartphone OLED displays to the Chinese tech giant.
Samsung Display is the world's biggest supplier of smartphone OLED displays.
On September 15, the U.S. began imposing new export curbs on Huawei on national security grounds.
This bans the supply of components made with American equipment, software and design to Huawei without prior approval from Washington.
According to the sources, Samsung Display is the first Korean company to earn such approval.
Since the latest sanctions went into effect, Huawei, the world's second-largest smartphone vendor, has also been struggling to get memory chips, making industry insiders doubt whether it will increase its procurement of display panels.
