The finance ministry said Monday that Hong will head to Washington on Tuesday.
The gathering is meant to lay the groundwork for the G-20 summit of world leaders scheduled from October 30 in Rome.
Hong plans to stress the need for policy coordination and the importance of promoting free trade in response to economic risks around the world as well as explain Seoul's stance on climate change response and the overhaul of the international corporate tax scheme.
