The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions said massive street rallies will be held nationwide Wednesday in conjunction with a one-day general strike, despite the government's pleas to call off the action amid coronavirus concerns.
Organizers said protests will be held at 14 locations, including Seoul, to demanding better working conditions as well as welfare benefits.
The KCTU said around 500,000 people were expected to walk off the job and join the rallies.
Authorities believe participant numbers will be far less, due to warnings about illegal gatherings amid the pandemic.
Police have vowed to mobilize all available personnel and equipment to prevent large groups from coming together.
In the capital, the rallies could cause major traffic delays around City Hall and Gwanghwamun Square due to large crowds and police buses lining the roads.
