The head of HDC Group, the main contractor of an apartment building under construction in Gwangju that partially collapsed last week, has offered an apology over the deadly accident.
Chung Mong-gyu said Monday he was sorry to the victim's families.
In a press conference, he said he would step down from his post to take responsibility for the incident.
Chung also indicated that the unfinished apartment complex could be demolished and reconstructed.
The remarks came as the search for five missing construction workers entered its seventh day.
On Friday, one worker who had been missing was found dead, a day after rescuers located him.
Authorities are still investigating what caused the facade of one of the high-rise apartment buildings at the construction site to suddenly collapse.
