6.8 magnitude earthquake hits eastern Turkey
A 6.8 magnitude earthquake rocked eastern Turkey on Friday, killing at least 21 people and injuring over 1,000.
According to Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, 17 people were killed in Elazig, and four others died in Malatya.
It added a total of 1,030 people were hurt, with the number likely to rise as the rescue operation proceeds.
The quake struck at 8:55 p.m. Friday at a depth of 6.7 kilometers near the town of Sivrice in Elazig.
Over 200 aftershocks were recorded after the earthquake.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Twitter that all measures were being taken to minimize the damage.■
