France has reported the first death from the novel coronavirus infection outside Asia.
French Health Minister Agnes Buzyn said an 80-year-old Chinese tourist from the virus-hit Hubei Province died in a hospital in Paris late Friday after his condition deteriorated rapidly since he was isolated in intensive care from January 25.
His daughter in her 30s, who accompanied him to the country, has also been confirmed with the coronavirus infection and put under treatment in Paris.
The death is the fourth from the virus outside of mainland China followed by Japan, the Philippines and Hong Kong.■
