China plans to bar entry of foreigners with visa and residence permits amid virus outbreak
China will suspend the entry of most foreign nationals from this Saturday, including those with valid visas and residence permits, in a bid to curb imported coronavirus cases.

China's foreign ministry announced the move late Thursday, explaining that it is a temporary measure taken in light of the outbreaks and practices of other countries.

Diplomatic workers and C Visa holders, issued to crewmembers working on international transportation services, will not be affected.

Foreigners engaged in "necessary economic, trade, scientific or technological activities" or "emergency humanitarian needs" may apply for visas at Chinese embassies or consulates.

The aviation administration has also ordered airlines to maintain only one route to a country and limit the number of flights to once a week starting Sunday.

China's National Health Commission reported 55 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, 54 of which were from overseas arrivals.■
