The World Health Organization headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
The World Health Organization has advised countries not to lift coronavirus measures amid signs of slowdown in new cases in parts of Europe.
WHO spokesperson Christian Lindmeier said on Tuesday that it's very important not to ease the measures "too early."
During a virtual briefing he explained that it's similar to being sick, saying that "if you get out of bed too early, you risk falling back and having complications."
He made the remarks after Italy reported 3,039 new cases on Tuesday, the smallest increase in new cases since March 13 and the second consecutive daily decline.
Another 604 deaths were also confirmed, lower than the the toll from the previous day.
Authorites there believe the figures underscore growing confidence the virus is slowing due to a nationwide lockdown.
The same day, Spain saw a slight increase for the first time in five days, raising its total number of infections to 141,800 and deaths to over 13,900.■
