The U.S. College Board, which administers the SAT college entrance exam, has scrapped plans to provide a home version of the test this year amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The company said Tuesday it made the decision as there is no guarantee all students will have access to the needed technology.
The home version of the SAT would have required three hours of uninterrupted computer and internet access.
The College Board announced back in April its plan to conduct the exam remotely in case schools remained closed into the fall because of the virus outbreak.
Although spring exams were canceled, the company is expected to expand the availability of the SAT at test centers this fall, possibly as early as August, adding that it's asking colleges to be more flexible with testing requirements.
The company said it may also add a January 2021 test date if there is demand.
