The young democracy activist Joshua Wong gave a defiant speech Monday, pleading with the world to stand with Hong Kong after China imposed a sweeping security law.
Wong and two other prominent young activists, Agnus Chow and Ivan Lam, appeared in court to face charges of illegal assembly related to a protest that took place last year.
He told reporters he would never surrender to Beijing.

"After the implementation of the national security law, no matter my books was banned in public library or mass arrests continued since last week. Almost 10,000 people were arrested since last summer. Chilling events exist in Hong Kong not only in the protests but also in our workplace, in schools and in different places. But once Beijing continues to silence our voice, we still have to try our best to continue this fight."
