U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper
The defense chiefs of the United States, Japan and Australia have called on North Korea to stop acts that raise tensions on the Korean Peninsula and return to the negotiating table.
According to the Pentagon, Defense Secretary Mark Esper and his Japanese and Australian counterparts, Taro Kono and Linda Reynolds, respectively, spoke on the matter Tuesday via videoconference.
In a joint statement issued after their talks, they condemned the North's repeated tests of ballistic missiles, calling them violations of United Nations Security Council resolutions.
They defense chiefs also expressed concern over Pyongyang's announcement that it no longer considers itself bound by its moratorium on nuclear tests and launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles.
