International charity Oxfam has warned more people could die from hunger as a result of the coronavirus pandemic than from the disease itself.

It said the crisis has disrupted harvests, food supplies and remittances in the poorest countries.

The BBC's Naomi Grimley has this report.

The UN has already warned that 122 million more people could be pushed to the brink of starvation as a result of the social and economic fallout from the pandemic. Oxfam cites some of the problems faced by countries such as Yemen. Remittances, the money sent home by Yemeni migrants to help their families, have plummeted by 80 percent because of mass job losses across the Gulf. Among the wealthier nations, India is facing huge food supply problems after lockdown restrictions left farmers without migrant labor at the peak of harvest season.
