Emergency teams in southern Japan are still searching for missing people and evacuating those stranded by deadly floods and mudslides as the death toll rose to at least 66.
The Fire and Disaster Management Agency said Friday that 16 others are still missing, mostly in hard-hit prefectures on Kyushu, including Kumamoto and Oita.
Damage from torrential rain has also spread into central Japan's scenic mountain villages.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said nearly 2,000 people are stranded in 70 places.
The Meteorological Agency has extended evacuation advisories to Nagasaki and other areas in the region due to continuing downpours with up to 300 millimeters of rain expected through Saturday.
