U.S. Transportation Security Administration personnel and travelers observe COVID-19 protocols at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on Oct. 20, 2020.
New York, once the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the United States, has expanded its list of states from where travelers will have to undergo a mandatory two-week quarantine.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Tuesday that people traveling to New York from 43 states and territories now meet the isolation criteria upon arrival.
The measure applies to anyone arriving from a state that has a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents over a seven-day rolling average.
Washington, Oregon, California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maine, Vermont, Hawaii, Arizona, New Hampshire and Massachusetts are the only states exempt from the rule.
