U.S. President Donald Trump issued a videotaped address Wednesday following the House of Representatives' vote to impeach him.
He made no mention of impeachment, nor did he try to persuade Americans that the November election was fraudulent.
Instead, Trump said he was "shocked and deeply saddened" by the violence at the Capitol last week in his first condemnation of the deadly riot that left five people dead.

"Whether you are on the right or the left, a Democrat or a Republican, there is never a justification for violence. No excuses, no exceptions. America is a nation of laws. Those who engaged in the attacks last week will be brought to justice."
He also appealed to his supporters to refrain from any further actions or disruption of Joe Biden's inauguration next week.
