The World Health Organization has expressed concern about the spread of new coronavirus variants.

More infectious variants first identified in Britain and South Africa are being detected in other countries.

The BBC's Imogen Foulkes reports from Geneva.

Everyone wants an end to lockdowns and a return to the things that make life fun -- holidays, dinners in restaurants, meeting friends.

But today, the WHO brought a cold dose of reality to those hopes.

The second year of the pandemic could be even tougher than the first.

New variants of the virus are being reported and while, so far, they don't make infected patients more ill, some do spread much more easily.
