The National Mall in Washington, D.C. has been lined with 200,000 flags and bathed in light ahead of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris's inauguration.

Inaugural organizers said the display represents the crowds of people who would have attended the ceremony on Wednesday if it was not for the pandemic and security threats.

On Monday night, the area was lit up by 56 beams of light for 46 seconds to symbolize the country's 50 states and territories and Biden as the 46th president.
