The head of the International Olympic Committee has called for "patience" over the coronavirus-postponed Tokyo Games amid speculation it could be canceled due to the ongoing pandemic.

IOC President Thomas Bach said Wednesday, "Our task is to organize Olympic Games, not to cancel Olympic Games and that is why we will not add fuel to this speculation," asking for understanding.

He also acknowledged that the complexity of planning had increased as a result of COVID-19, and said he thinks it's too early to decide anything else.

The IOC and Tokyo organizers have continued to stress that there is no Plan B for the Summer Games that are set to open on July 23.
