Fiji has ordered two of its largest cities into lockdown after the island nation recorded its first case of COVID-19 community transmission in a year.
Health authorities said Monday that the greater Nadi and Lautoka areas would be shut down until further notice to prevent the further spread of the disease.
According to officials, a 53-year-old woman on the island tested positive after coming into close contact with a soldier who contracted COVID-19 at a quarantine facility in Nadi.
More than 330 people who had contact with the woman have been placed in isolation.
Fiji has largely contained COVID-19 by closing its borders and implementing strict quarantine measures.
Since the start of the pandemic, it has recorded less than 100 cases and just two deaths in a population of 930,000.
