The president of the Real Madrid football club has defended a controversial plan to form a breakaway European Super League, saying the aim is to save football.
Florentino Perez, who's the chairman of the Super League, said young people were losing interest in the sport and football needed to adapt to changing times.

"We have to analyze why 40 percent of young people between 16 and 24 are no longer interested in football. So why? Well, because there are too many matches of poor quality and they aren't interested. We are doing this to save football, which is at a critical moment."
