The Australian city of Brisbane is one step closer to hosting the 2032 Olympics after it won approval Thursday from the International Olympic Committee's executive board.
The decision will be put to a vote of IOC members on July 21.
If realized, it will be the third time Australia has hosted the Games after Melbourne in 1956 and Sydney in 2000.
Brisbane became the IOC's preferred host in February, due to its favorable weather and previous experience hosting international events.
Several countries had expressed an interest in hosting the event, including Hungary, China and Germany.
South and North Korea had also planned a joint bid.
