Organizers for the upcoming Tokyo Games have said that up to 10,000 local spectators will be allowed at Olympic events, provided that it does not exceed 50 percent of a venue's capacity.
It was earlier decided that overseas fans would be banned from attending the coronavirus-postponed Olympics.
The latest decision was made Monday during an online meeting of five organizing bodies, IOC President Thomas Bach and Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike.
The officials, however, left open the option of holding competitions behind closed doors if infections in Japan surge.
A decision on how many fans will be allowed at the Paralympic Games will be delayed until July 16.
