U.S. President Joe Biden has pledged to donate an additional 500 million doses of coronavirus vaccines to less developed countries.
In a special virtual summit on Wednesday, Biden described the pandemic as a global tragedy which couldn't be solved with half measures.

"The United States is buying another half a billion doses of Pfizer to donate to low and middle income countries around the world that will all be shipped by this time next year and it brings our total commitment of donated vaccines to over 1.1 billion vaccines to be donated. Put another way, for every one shot we've administered to date in America, we have now committed to do three shots to the rest of the world."
The meeting of world leaders was aimed at prodding wealthier countries to do more to end the pandemic.
President Moon Jae-in, meanwhile, reaffirmed South Korea's commitment to playing a leading role in the fight against the disease.
In a pre-taped video message, he said his country will contribute to efforts to overcome the coronavirus crisis through the supply and support of more vaccines.
