The U.S. Defense Department said Wednesday that Washington is open to discussing a possible end of war declaration with North Korea.
President Moon Jae-in proposed the move earlier this week at the United Nations General Assembly, saying South Korea, the U.S. and China could come together to formally end the war.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told a press briefing that the U.S. continues to seek engagement with the North, adding it "remains committed to achieving lasting peace on the Korean peninsula through dialogue and diplomacy."
The remarks were made amid stalled nuclear negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang.
The regime has repeatedly ignored overtures from the Biden administration, which said it is willing to meet with North Korean officials anytime and anywhere without preconditions.
