President Moon receives a briefing regarding the New Northern Policy at Cheong Wa Dae
President Moon Jae-in has voiced hope for practical results for his administration's New Northern Policy, which is aimed at improving South Korea's partnerships with Russia and other countries located north of the peninsula.
The president made the remark today after receiving a policy briefing from Kwon Goo-hoon, chairman of the Presidential Committee on Northern Economic Cooperation.
Moon launched the committee weeks after taking office in May 2017 to lead a diplomatic campaign aimed at strengthening economic and other types of cooperation with nations in the northern region.
According to Cheong Wa Dae deputy spokesman Han Jung-woo, Kwon noted how South Korea marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations with both Russia and Mongolia this year, calling it a great opportunity to promote the New Northern Policy.
Similar policy briefings from ministries and various state agencies will continue through February.■
