Diamond Princess cruise ship docked in Yokohama
The government says South Koreans on board a coronavirus-hit cruise ship in Japan will have to be quarantined for 14 days if they decide to be repatriated.
Fourteen Korean nationals - nine passengers and five crew members - are said to be on the vessel.
Kim Gang-lip, deputy head of the Central Disaster Management Headquarters, made the remark during a press briefing this morning while explaining plans to bring back Korean nationals from the Diamond Princess.
That means those that return to the country will be admitted into temporary facilities just like evacuees from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak.
They will be kept there for two weeks while medical officials monitor their health.
Earlier, the government said it is pushing ahead with a plan to transfer the Korean passengers and crew if they test negative for the virus before February 19, the day the ship's quarantine is set to end.■
