COVID-19 virus patient being transferred to another hospital from Daenam Hospital in Cheongdo
South Korea has confirmed a second death from the novel coronavirus in the country.
At a regular briefing on Saturday, Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Jung Eun-kyeong said a 55-year-old woman, who tested positive for COVID-19, has died of pneumonia after first showing symptoms earlier this month.
The woman had been hospitalized in Daenam Hospital in Cheongdo for a long time due to her underlying mental health condition.
She died at a hospital in Busan on Friday evening soon after being transferred there for intensive care.
Jung also said the government will increase its efforts to secure more suitable hospitals for virus patients with underlying or critical conditions.
On Wednesday, a 63-year-old man, who also died of pneumonia at Daenam Hospital, posthumously tested positive for the virus.■
