Mexican airline, Aeromexico, departs for Seoul from coronavirus-hit Peru, March 26
A South Korean government-arranged flight with 198 nationals aboard has departed from coronavirus-hit Peru.
The chartered Aeromexico flight took off Thursday afternoon from Lima and was scheduled to make a stop in Mexico before arriving at Incheon International Airport Saturday morning.
The passengers, including tourists and workers of the KOICA state aid agency, had been stranded in Peru due to border closures aimed at stemming the spread of the virus.
Earlier this week, the South Korean Embassy in Peru organized a domestic flight and seven buses to help gather citizens scattered across 14 regions at the airport in the Peruvian capital.
South Korea has so far arranged special flights to help evacuate citizens and their family members from the central Chinese city of Wuhan, a cruise ship near Yokohama, Japan and from Tehran.■
