South Korean and U.S. soldiers engage in a computer simulated exercise called Key Resolve in Busan.
South Korea and the United States are reportedly considering canceling their planned joint military exercises next month as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
According to multiple government sources on Thursday, the two sides have yet to finalize the date and method of their joint training.
While agreeing on the need to conduct the drills to maintain their combined defense posture, the allies have prepared plans to either proceed normally, downsize the exercise or call it off altogether, depending on the virus situation.
If the training is downsized or canceled, they will likely have to reconsider preparations for Washington's planned transfer of wartime operational control to Seoul by 2022.
The allies carried out an initial operational capability test last August, and their defense ministers decided to move on to the next step of carrying out the Full Operational Capability test this summer.
