President Moon Jae-in is reshuffling his national security team amid recent tensions with North Korea and the resignation of Unification Minister Kim Yeon-chul.

Cheong Wa Dae spokesman Kang Min-seok announced Friday former four-term lawmaker Park Jie-won was named as the new head of the National Intelligence Service, replacing Suh Hoon, who has been tapped as director of the National Security Office.

The president also appointed four-term ruling Democraticy Party lawmaker Lee In-young as his next unification minister.

Meanwhile, presidential chief of staff Im Jong-seok and outgoing national security adviser Chung Eui-yong have been named special advisers for diplomatic and security affairs.
