South Jeolla Province has upgraded its social distancing scheme to the second highest level amid a spike in locally-transmitted coronavirus infections.
Governor Kim Yung-rok announced during a press briefing over the weekend the move would take effect Monday.
Kim noted how virus cases are spiraling out of control in the region, particularly at multiuse facilities such as temples, churches, hospitals and nursing homes, and said Level 1 distancing in daily life is not enough to protect South Jeolla.
The Level 2 scheme bans private and public indoor meetings of 50 or more people and outdoor meetings of over 100.
It also calls for the mandatory wearing of masks on public transportation and at restaurants and cafes.
The metropolitan city of Gwangju, which is surrounding by the province, took a similar move last week to try and contain a local spike in cluster infections.
