The daily number of new coronavirus infections in South Korea dropped below 50 on Monday after three straight days of 60-plus cases.

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 48 additional cases from Sunday, raising the total caseload to 13,137.

Half of the latest cases were locally transmitted with many in the capital region.

Health authorities detected a new cluster of infections in Incheon linked to a health product sales meeting.

In the southwestern city of Gwangju, an outbreak that started at a local Buddhist temple continued to spread, tallying at least 80 related cases of infection.

The KCDC said 24 cases were imported from overseas, 15 of which were detected at border checkpoints.

One more COVID-19 fatality was also confirmed, bringing the nationwide death toll to 284.
