Every person entering South Korea by sea now has to be tested for the novel coronavirus.

Strengthened quarantine regulations at ports nationwide took effect Monday.

Local authorities said they will carry out COVID-19 testing in cooperation with the oceans and justice ministries.

The move comes after crewmembers of two Russia-flagged cargo ships docked in Busan last month tested positive for the virus.

South Koreans will have to undergo a two-week quarantine at home while foreigners will be placed at government-designated facilities also for 14 days.
