South Korean Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo reportedly held an emergency meeting with U.S. General Robert Abrams, the head of the Combined Forces Command.
Multiple government sources said Jeong and Abrams met Tuesday at Seoul's defense ministry.
Although details of the meeting have not been disclosed, the officials likely discussed next month's planned joint drills.
The allies have yet to decide whether to downsize or postpone the military exercises due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The sources pointed out it will be difficult for American troops to enter South Korea from the United States due to the situation there with its alarming rise in new coronavirus cases.
