Seoul and Washington share a "firm" understanding on the role and importance of U.S. Forces Korea, according to the Ministry of Defense.
Deputy spokesman Moon Hong-sik made the remark Thursday as concerns reignited over the possibility the Trump administration may try to cut American troop levels in South Korea.
The Pentagon announced on Wednesday details of its plan to withdraw around one third of 36,000 U.S. service members stationed in Germany.
Moon said Seoul and Washington have not discussed any possible adjustment to the 28,500-strong U.S. forces stationed on the peninsula.
