Joint military exercises between South Korea and the United States will reportedly kick off on Sunday and continue through August 28.
According to a government source, the Crisis Management Staff Training will be held from Tuesday until Friday to prepare for the combined drills.
They will consist of computer simulations to cope with emergencies on the Korean Peninsula.
Compared to previous years, the exercises have been downsized due to the coronavirus pandemic, meaning there will be significantly less American service members traveling to South Korea from the U.S. and Japan to take part.
A full capability test for the transfer of wartime operational control of South Korean troops will not be carried out as scheduled, but will be replaced with a preliminary test.
