The government has reiterated calls for all South Koreans to follow quarantine guidelines as health authorities have yet to bring the spread of the coronavirus under control.

Second Vice Health Minister Kang Do-tae told meeting of the Central Disaster Management Headquarters Thursday that if the country is unable to recover from the current crisis, more difficulties will be faced on both the social and economic fronts.

He pointed out the daily number of new virus infections continues to hover above 100, while more than 2,800 patients, a majority of them in the capital region, are still being treated for COVID-19.

Kang said more active efforts will have to be made during the upcoming Chuseok holiday when there is usually a mass migration of people heading to their hometowns.
