Medical workers attend to people lined up to get tested for COVID-19 at a community health center in the Songpa District of Seoul.
South Korea reported 126 additional cases of the novel coronavirus on Friday and five more deaths.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency said 109 local and 17 imported cases were confirmed the previous day, bringing the overall tally to 22,783.
The death toll rose to 377.
The daily virus figure stayed below 200 for the 16th consecutive day, but sporadic cluster infections and untraceable cases continued to hamper efforts by health officials as they seek to bring new cases down under 100.
A growing source of concern is the number of coronavirus cases with unidentified transmission routes, which reached yet another record high of 26.4 percent of all new infections over the past two weeks.
While the government mulls next steps with regard to social distancing measures ahead of the major Chuseok holiday, authorities continue to push for more public cooperation with current guidelines to contain the spread of the virus.
