South Korea's daily virus tally has stayed below 100 for a third consecutive day, maintaining a slowing trend in new infections ahead of the critical Chuseok holiday, when millions travel across the nation.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency said Tuesday that 61 new cases were confirmed the previous day -- 51 local infections and 10 imported from abroad -- raising the cumulative total to 23,106.
The virus death toll rose by three to 388.
Tuesday's tally marks the lowest since August 13, when 56 cases were recorded ahead of a resurgence of COVID-19 linked to a church in Seoul and an anti-government rally.
In a bid to curb further spread of the virus, the government is maintaining Level 2 social distancing until Sunday, after which a special antivirus prevention scheme will be imposed for two weeks, covering Chuseok and the following Hangeul Day weekend.
Health authorities have warned that a massive migration of people during holidays will "surely" cause another wave of infections and urged citizens to stay home and avoid group gatherings.
